Nars Foundation presents, The Web Under theSkin, a duo exhibition curated by Sammy Bennett featuring the works of Ami Park and Katie Hubbell.

In their work, Ami and Katie navigate thetension between the tangible and the fluid, setting corporeal rigid materialsagainst intangible ephemeral light. Through sculpture, textiles, videoprojections and sound, their immersive installation transforms the galleryspace into an intricate web that ensnares viewers within a delicate, shiftingnetwork of inescapable sensory entanglements.

About the curator:

Sammy Bennett (b. 1990, Ypsilanti, MI) is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice incorporates painting, printmaking, textiles, and found objects to examine his lived experiences across rural and urban environments. Drawing from the neighborhoods and apartments he has inhabited, Bennett transforms personal objects and everyday spaces into layered portraits that explore memory, place, and identity. Bennett received a BFA from Kendall College of Art and Design in 2012 and an MFA from Michigan State University in 2016. He was awarded the Stanley and Selma Hollander Graduate Fellowship in Studio Art in 2015. He has participated in residencies at Scuola Internazionale di Grafica in Venice, Italy (2012, 2016, and 2025), the Jentel Foundation in Wyoming (2025), and Rondo Residency in Mexico City (2026). Recent exhibitions include Below Grand, BravinLee Programs, All Street, and 81 Leonard (New York, NY); the Ely Center of Contemporary Art (New Haven, CT); Strata Gallery (Santa Fe, NM); Annmarie Sculpture Garden & Arts Center (Solomons, MD); and the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum (East Lansing, MI). In 2022, Bennett founded Bob’s Gallery, an artist-run space dedicated to supporting emerging and underrepresented artists through debut solo exhibitions. Centered on collaboration and experimental curatorial programming, Bob’s provides opportunities for creative risk-taking while fostering dialogue within New York’s contemporary art community.

About the artists:

Katie Hubbell creates layered sensorial experiences that invite audiences to become keenly aware of their own bodies. Drawing inspiration from the hypnotic quality of ASMR, her video and sound work moves from soothing and meditative to humorous or grotesque. Her work encourages viewers to slow down and be present, exploring themes of care, intimacy, touch, and connection. Hubbell was born in Austin, TX, and currently lives in Brooklyn, NY. She holds an MFA from the Slade School of Fine Art, University College London, and a BFA in painting from Kansas State University. Her work has been exhibited nationally and in Europe. She has attended residencies at the NARS Foundation, Wassaic Project, Elsewhere MuseumResidency, Vermont Studio Center, 77 Art, Atlantic Center for the Arts, Oxbow School of Art and Artist Residency, and was a visiting artist in residence at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia.

‍

Ami Park is a New York–based multidisciplinary artist working primarily in textile sculpture, installation and painting. Her practice examines textiles as material systems shaped by accumulation, tension, gravity, and embodied labor. Repetition, adaptation, and the bodily memory of making are central to how Park understands both material and identity. Her work has been presented at The Bronx Museum, MoMA PopRally, CICA Museum, The Kube Art Center, Garage Art Center, Pen + Brush, and Mana Contemporary, among others, and has been reviewed by Hyperallergic, Observer, and Queens Chronicle. She has a forthcoming exhibition at Queens College Art Center in 2027. Park is a recipient of The Bronx Museum’s AIM Fellowship and New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) Immigrant Artist Mentoring Program. She has received support from the Queens Arts Fund, Rauschenberg Emergency Grants, CERF+, the Puffin Foundation, Creatives Rebuild New York, Artists’ Fellowship, Inc., and the Woodman Family Foundation. Her residencies include the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC) Arts Center Residency, SVA Bio Art Residency, Prairie Ronde Artist Residency, and Stove Works. Park received a BFA in Fashion Design from Parsons School of Design and studied Craft and Arts at Sookmyung Women’s University in Seoul, South Korea. Her studio is based in Brooklyn, New York.
