NARS supports early- to mid-career artists working across all disciplines through three- and six-month residencies. We are pleased to offer partial fellowships, covering the majority of the program fee, to all US-based artists. One US-based artist receives a full fellowship covering the entire cost of the program for a three-month period (one season).
In addition to artists based in the US, NARS welcomes international artists, creating a community centered around artistic dialogue and international cultural exchange.
Only US-based artists are eligible for fellowships at this time. The amount of the partial fellowship funding may vary depending on sponsorship available at the time of application. Please note that once accepted to the program, US-based artists are not able to defer their residency period.
We suggest keeping a flexible schedule in order to fully participate in the residency program. Most key programming takes place during NARS office hours, Monday to Friday, 10am–6pm. This includes orientation, artist presentations, and meetings; studio visits and studio visitor and artist salons; ASAP, our weekly communal gathering; and residency exhibition installation and deinstallation.
NARS studios are workspaces only. Artists who need additional funding for accommodations, travel, materials, or any other expenses should apply to other sources. For more information, please email residency@narsfoundation.org for more information or call 718-768-2765.
NARS subsidizes the cost of the three-month and six-month residency for all US-based applicants through Partial Fellowships.
For 2026, partial fellowships of $6,835 subsidize the cost of the three-month residency ($9,900), meaning US-based artists are responsible for a program fee of $3,065. The fee may be paid in full or in monthly installments.
One US-based artist per residency season will be awarded a Full Fellowship, which covers all program fees for the season.
Artists who wish to be considered for the full fellowship must fill out the relevant section on the application. A jury consisting of NARS staff and select art professionals will review applications on the merit of artistic quality and level of need; studio practice; and the potential professional development and benefit from engaging with the NARS community.

Applications are currently closed.
For questions, please refer to our FAQ page or contact us at info@narsfoundation.org.
Artists-in-residence are selected during two Open Call periods per year through our application portal. US-based artists must apply during the Open Call periods if they wish to be considered for the program. They are not eligible to apply via the rolling application, which is reserved for international artists only.
