US-based Artists

The New York Art Residency & Studios (NARS) Foundation Artist in Residency Program supports emerging and mid-career artists working across all disciplines through three and six-month residencies. The program is open to both International and US-based artists, creating a shared space for artistic dialogue and international cultural exchange for an extended period of time.

US-based Artist Guidelines

NARS currently offers three-month Full Fellowships and Partial Fellowship residencies to U.S. based applicants. The number of awards and the amount may vary depending on sponsorship available at the time of application. Only US-based applicants are eligible for fellowships at this time. Please note that once accepted to the program, US-based artists are not able to defer their residency period.

We suggest having a flexible and somewhat open schedule to fully participate in the residency program. Most essential residency programming happens during NARS office hours, Monday -Friday, 10am-6pm. This includes studio visits, our weekly communal residency meeting, residency orientation, artist presentations and residency exhibition installation prep.

The studio is a work space only. Artists who need additional funding and support for partial fellowships, travel, materials and accommodations should apply to other sources. Email residency@narsfoundation.org for more information or call 718-768-2765.

Starting in 2023, Full Fellowships and Partial Fellowships will be awarded to US-based Residency Artists.

Partial Fellowships for US-based Applications

NARS subsidizes the cost of the three-month and six-month residency for all US-based applicants through Partial Fellowships.

For 2026 partial fellowships ($6,835) subsidize the cost of the three-month residency ($9,900), meaning US-based applicants in 2025 will be responsible for a program fee of $3,065 which can be paid in full or in monthly installments.

Full Fellowships for US-based Applicants

One US-based artist per residency season will be awarded a Full Fellowship, which covers all program fees for the season. Artists must fill out the relevant section on their application to be considered for the Full Fellowship. A jury consisting of NARS staff and select art professionals will review applications on the merit of artistic quality and level of need; studio practice; and the potential professional development and benefit from engaging with the NARS community. Only US-based artists are eligible.
