NARS Foundation is pleased to present BONE ASH, MEMORY HOLES, THE RECIPES, a solo exhibition by NARS alum Yoshie Sugito (Season II, 2021 & Season IV, 2022).
In BONE ASH, MEMORY HOLES, THE RECIPES, Yoshie Sugito presents a solo exhibition tracking 13 Sichuan pickle jars that traveled from New York across the West Coast, Taiwan, and Berlin. Through recipes, notes, and drawings gathered along migrant networks and domestic spaces, Sugito explores how culture mutates across borders. The opening reception features CONFLUENCE UNDER BRINE, a participatory performance inviting visitors directly into the collective archive.
About the artist:
Berlin-based Japanese visual artist Yoshie Sugito works across painting, sculpture, ceramics, drawing, and participatory installation. Her practice explores cultural difference, miscommunication, and the subtle humor that emerges between different perspectives. In recent years, she has developed participatory projects that gather and archive personal stories, memories, recipes, and lived experiences within local and migrant communities. Through these collaborative processes, Sugito transforms everyday narratives into visual and material forms, exploring connection, belonging, identity, and the complexities of cross-cultural encounters. Her work brings together fragments of language, objects, images, and shared experiences, creating spaces where different perspectives can meet, overlap, and generate new forms of communication
NARS Foundation Galleries are open to the public from 12pm - 5pm, Monday - Friday. Please contact info@narsfoundation.org with any other inquires.
