Lim's work examines both the obvious and unobvious. He challenges preconceived ideas about ordinary objects by jettisoning their traditional functions and transforming something familiar into its unapparent counterpart. Lim seeks to toss aside the audience’s preconceptions about what art is. Accordingly, He stretches the boundaries of imagination. Nowadays, we take life for granted and it becomes a repetitive cycle. Everything is judged rapidly by inference; some objects are easily passed without critical observation. But every object, every word, is significant. Building on these blind spots, he exposes the viewer’s illusions and encourage them to look anew.

SEUNGTACK LIM was born in Seoul, South Korea, in 1986. He studied at Gachon University (BFA, 2012) in Korea and attained a Post-Baccalaureate degree in Fine Arts at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in Baltimore, Maryland. He graduated an MFA program in MICA’s Rinehart School of Sculpture. He has had several exhibitions in Korea and the United States and was awarded a Junk Art prize in 2012 in Seoul. He had a solo show in July 2016 for his drawing and sculpture in Seoul.
