I create paintings, drawings, and light-based installations that use geometry and architectural forms to explore social and cultural systems.
Bahar Taheri’s multidisciplinary practice investigates how social, political, and cultural systems shape collective and individual experience. Rooted in her life between Iran and Canada, her work engages with structure, displacement, and transformation. Working across painting, drawing, printmaking, and installation, she moves between figuration and geometric abstraction. Through the deconstruction of architectural icons and the use of sacred geometry, Taheri examines tensions between form and space. She creates imagined visual systems in which connection and coexistence persist beneath difference, challenging fixed hierarchies, binaries, and notions of separation
Bahar Taheri is an Iranian-Canadian visual artist based in Montreal. She holds a Master’s degree in Visual Arts from Soore Art University in Tehran. Her work has been exhibited across Canada, Iran, and Europe, and she has participated in several international artist residencies. She has received grants from the Canada Council for the Arts, the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, and the Conseil des arts de Montréal. Her work is held in the collection of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, which selected one of her pieces to commemorate the 20th anniversary of its Sharing the Museum program.
