Madison Donnelly is a sculptor whose practice examines the psychic impact of systemic neglect- ranging from the unkempt human body and rented apartments to animal and planetary neglect.
Madison Donnelly is a sculptor, new media, and installation artist exploring ownership, domestication, ideology, and private property. Her practice examines the psychic impact of systemic neglect, from the unkempt human body and rented home to animal and planetary neglect. In her material and spatial investigations, she considers maintenance as an endless cycle of deterioration and repair, and the rented home as haunted space. Donnelly draws connections between Renaissance grottoes and their American simulacra: casinos, shopping malls, amusement parks, and mildew-streaked apartment showers. Placing water at the center of this creation puzzle, Donnelly uses its sonic and material properties to evoke psychic spaces where epiphanies, fantasies, and ideologies take form in the built environment.
Madison Donnelly is a sculptor and new media artist exploring themes of artifice, domestication, ideology, and private property. She holds an MFA in Sculpture from Yale University '23 where she was awarded the Blair Dickinson Memorial Prize and a Design Fellowship at the Center for Engineering, Innovation and Design. She has participated in artist residencies like Fountainhead in Miami, MassMoCA in North Adams, Massachusetts, SOMA in Tlaxcala, Mexico and at the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art in Salt Lake City. Madison has shown her work at ACUD Galerie in Berlin, Specialist Gallery in Seattle, Helena Anrather in NYC and UMOCA in SLC. She currently teaches art and design at Brooklyn College in New York City.
