Ira Eduardovna

I was born and raised in Uzbekistan, where I lived until age ten. My practice focuses on migration, displacement, and memory. Using video installations and film, I deconstruct autobiographical narratives by manipulating time, repetition, and perspective to reveal layered personal and collective histories. My work examines familial structures and memory’s imperfections—how certain moments are preserved while others fade or are erased. By presenting multiple timelines and exposing the mechanics of artistic production, my installations challenge conventional narratives and question the reliability of memory. Reenactment is central to my work, serving as a tool to process trauma. Through subtle shifts in location, objects, and sound, I invite viewers to witness the interplay between past and present, and between personal and collective memory.

Ira Eduardovna is a video installation artist and filmmaker. She was born and raised in Uzbekistan, and currently lives and works in NYC.  
She received numerous awards, including Guggenheim Fellowship, NYFA and NYSCA, Ostrovsky Family Fund, Artis grant and Jerome Foundation among others.
Her art work has been presented internationally in solo and group exhibitions and festivals at venues such as Anthology Film Archives (NYC), Loop Video Art Fair (Barcelona, Spain), Tel Aviv Museum of Art, The Jewish Museum Frankfurt (Germany), Oi Futuro Museum (Rio de Janeiro), The Israel Museum (Jerusalem), Museum Morsbroich (Leverkusen, Germany), and FUTURA Center for Contemporary Art (Prague), among others.
She received her MFA from Hunter College, New York, in 2012.
