Uncanished Workld—An Epistemological Inquiry is a series of installations exploring how humans perceive and interpret both the external world and the inner self. Using drawing, sculpture, painting, printmaking, text, and craft, the project examines paradoxes such as order/chaos, life/death, and peace/turbulence. The fictional universe’s name reflects its dual nature: “uncanny,” as rationality cannot fully grasp reality, and “unfinished,” as understanding remains incomplete. Each installation acts as a chapter on aspects like space or time, combining scientific diagrams, religious iconography, and mythological imagery into a system that resists comprehension. Ultimately, the work interrogates the limits of knowledge, the persistence of faith, and the tension between order and chaos in our attempts to understand the unutterable.
Ji Eun Cheon (b. 1995) is a multidisciplinary artist exploring the intersections of perception and understanding. Through installations that synthesize various media, she examines the coexistence of paradoxes—order and chaos, reason and uncertainty. Her fictional universe, Uncanished Workld, reflects the limits of knowledge and the perpetual tension between structure and instability. She holds BFA and MFA degrees in sculpture from Seoul National University and MFA in fine arts from School of Visual Arts.
