I work mainly with painting, and my works investigate disregarded places in urban environments, know as “non-places.” These sites, such as airports, subway stations, elevators, etc., are intermediate spaces where people remain anonymous, disengaged and estranged. Often built for maximum function and minimal aesthetics, they are utterly mundane and devoid of personalities. When people are traversing these in-between zones, they are temporarily stuck in a state of immobility where they are severed from their past and have not yet arrived at a future. In order to convey the cold gleam of mundanity, I depict subjects that are industrial and/or desolate. I explore my relationship with these spaces through the tools of composition, light, and colors, fragmenting the pictorial space with composite wood panels as well as the geometric division of colors.
