By collaging numerous videos and photos from different cities that she has collected, Hyemi Kim creates high-definition hybrid landscapes. From video to installation, she researches city structures and focuses on creating a complex digital utopia. Playfully destabilizing the boundaries of space and time, the busy and fantastic environment represents her scattered memories and experiences in contemporary life. Beneath the wealth of detail and activity, though, lies a sense of alienation, drawn from an immigrant’s experience of being lost between two homes.

Hyemi Kim is a South Korean multi-media artist based in New York and Seoul. She received her MFA in Photography, Video, and Related Media from the School of Visual Arts and got her first MFA and BFA in Painting from South Korea. Her video works were shown at Time Square, the ZAZ corner and several group shows in NYC. She is also active in South Korea participating in the 2021 CICA New Media Art Conference, 2017 Seoul Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism, and 2016 ASYAF(Asian Student & Young Artist Art Fair).
