Using sound, video, performance and drawings Freya explores language’s relationship to individual and collective memory, both personal and political in nature. She understands memory as an intermediary between a reader and a history. When activated, it can be a tool to narrow distance, to make the impersonal personal. To this effect Freya gathers memories, researches etymology, and builds archives that offer a glimpse of a collective experience, a moment when the individual becomes part of the universal and the distance between the two is diminished.
