Eeva Honkanen is an artist who explores in her large-scale ink drawings our complex relationship to the natural world. Her practice is centered around the threat of a loss of species and biodiversity. Lately, Honkanen has been intrigued by the concept of ’impact’, that signifies for her both threat and uncertainty, as well as the importance of being present. Under the seemingly chaotic surface of Honkanen’s work lies a deep interest towards the essence of human nature and the impact of small decisions and events on life and the future. In her drawings, Honkanen filters the uncertainties and chaos of the surrounding world leading her viewers into bizarre parallel worlds with incredible attention to detail.

Eeva Honkanen is a Helsinki-based, Finnish artist whose drawings deal with the internal conflicts, anxieties, and emotions that are inherent to all human beings. She graduated as a Master of Arts from the Aalto University - School of Arts, Design, and Architecture in 2010. The concept behind her artistic work is capsulated in the sentence “if it doesn’t make sense then it’s true”. Eeva has exhibited internationally with group and solo shows in Finland, Germany, Denmark, Portugal and the U.S. Notable posts include an artist-in-residence at the Arts Promotion Centre (Berlin) and the Finnish-African Cultural Centre (Benin) and the Finnish Cultural Institute in New York. Honkanen’s work has in recent years been supported by e.g. The Finnish Cultural Foundation, Arts Promotion Centre Finland, and The City of Helsinki.
