2023 Season IV

Artist Statement/ Biography

Schakir’s art is not as much about the content or mimesis of art, but rather about structures of perception and conditions of art as experience. Making perception a central artistic substance is to find ways to sensitize, diminish visual noise and activity, and instead, direct attention towards being as well as to observe and share internalist, immaterial and nonlocal pieces/ events of inner motion. Along with her works comes the questions of immateriality, objecthood, localness and the possibilities of solipsistic imagining as art.

Schakir’s versatility as an artist is demonstrated through the diversity of her practice, which includes public art projects, lighting and set design for contemporary dance, and architecture. She received her MA from University of Arts, Helsinki and is currently a doctoral student. < BACK
