Artist Statement

Taiyo Kimura's work has been formed from the accumulation of oddities he has found in ordinary, everyday life. A variety of themes has emerged out of this accumulation such as "unconscious group behavior","the basis of identity or the thing called I", "the relationship of body and mind", "desire and circulation" and so on. One becomes entwined with another as they are sublimated into works of art. These themes keep coming back in his mind no matter how much he tries to get rid of them every time he makes work. Also, through making his art, he has come to think of his "life" as an extremely strange thing. What meaning is there in living the way we do? The more we make art, the less we understand. Taiyo's work may induce laughter, but even if the humor is black it has a positive meaning for him, representing life itself.
