Sepideh Farzam (Iran/Australia)

 

Artist Statement/ Biography

Place has contributed to the formation of Sepideh Farzam’s art practice. It intersects with the theme of time and the subthemes of memory, identity and history. Farzam is drawn to various media, such as painting, sculpture, installation and textile. She uses fabric, paper, paint, wood and some relevant discarded and found materials in a symbolic gesture to distant memories, lived experiences and the theme of place. They highlight the trace of specific and intense feeling of human ties and its uniqueness in an abstract way.

Sepideh Farzam is Sydney based contemporary artist. She completed Master of Studio Art in 2010 and Master of Fine Arts in 2013 at Sydney College of the Arts, University of Sydney, as well as having an undergraduate degree in Electronic Engineering from Azad University, Tehran, Iran. Farzam has held several solo and group exhibitions in Australia, Iran and Europe. Her last solo exhibition was held in Firstdraft in Sydney in October 2019. Farzam took part in several international art residencies. She is attending the NARS Foundation art residency in New York in 2020. She was awarded Cite Internationale des Arts Residency in Paris in 2013. Farzam was nominated for the 2012 Jameel Prize, V&A Museum, London.
