Artist Statement/ Biography

Lily Jue Sheng combines cinematic assemblage, craft, and poetics into a kind of embodied aesthetic that speaks beyond a particular logic. Sheng often uses personal voice and writing to sort through the noise of language attrition, code-switching, and place attachment. Their films take an antithetical, anti-theoretical approach to storytelling, preferring instead to give texture to everyday surroundings and time.
