Artist Statement/ Biography

Through her art, Katherine Patiño Miranda highlights the invisible state of interdependence among diverse organisms on our planet. Her works, which she calls practices, are time meditations always in the process of becoming dealing with cycles of life and decay and the interdependent relationship between the human and non-human. She transforms food waste and cardboard into natural pigments, paintings, performances and installations. In her life, the lines between kitchen, garden, and creative space blur on a daily basis becoming an ever-evolving field of investigation. She is interested in redefining notions like waste and trash. Her current artistic exploration begins by cooking, eating, recycling, composting, planting, harvesting and visiting the forest.

Katherine Patiño Miranda is a Brooklyn based artist from Cali Colombia working at the intersection of performance, installation, painting, pedagogy and video. Her shows include From Plates to Plants at the Lower East Side Ecology Center, New York (2020),This thin Edge at La Cápsula ,Zürich (2020), Around Us at Kate Oh Gallery, New York (2018); HnC -agency for the new contemporary at MANIFESTA11 European Biennial of Contemporary Art, Zürich (2016). She received a merit art award at the III Biennale, DESDE AQUÍ in Bucaramanga Colombia and a residency fellowships at La Paternal, Buenos Aires, Argentina and el Centro Rural in Isla Victoria, Argentina. She holds a BA from Hunter College and an MA from Zürich University from the Arts.
