2023 Season III

Artist Statement/ Biography

Hannah Ehrlich studies unprocessed experiences, fractured memories, coping mechanisms, and the intricacies of human emotional survival. She explores these subjects through a process that is inherently taxing and defined by change, blending and distorting multiple textile practices such as weaving, crocheting, macraméing, and sewing. She utilizes paint, dye, and bleach on manipulated fabric to alter the material from its original, recognizable state. An unfamiliar space is created, generating a desire to touch and understand the fibers’ change in nature. The viewer is invited to begin piecing together the past and identify the longing to make sense of it.
