2020 Season I

Brian Napier (USA)

Artist Statement/ Biography

Brooklyn based artist Brian Napier explores the characterization of power dynamics in contemporary culture. Raised in Oklahoma, the iconography and relics of the "Wild West" permeate Napier's work, drawing on personal experiences to create an archive of power dynamics as they exist in Western society. Using a variety of media and methods--including 3-D printing, woodworking, metal work, plastics and ceramics--Napier interjects found objects with created and manipulated forms to explore Western mythology while disrupting familiar tropes and creating new narratives.
