2012 Season II, 2013 Season I

Artist Statement/ Biography

Michael and Alan Fleming are twin brothers who have been collaborating over the past 7 years. Their collaboration is rooted in physicality and play. Their art takes many forms- performances, video pieces, drawings, sculptures and more. They have a conceptual relationship to space and materiality that manifests in an embodied art practice. In their live performances they tend to treat the body as a structural form and create sculptural interventions within architectural spaces. Their video works and sculptures often highlight the studio as a site for play, experimentation, or escape.

Alan and Michael Fleming currently live and work in New York. The Fleming twins began working together in 2005 while both studying Painting at The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. As a collaborative they received their MFA from the Performance Department at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2010. Their work has been exhibited nationally and internationally including shows in Chicago, New York, Berlin, Copenhagen, Glasgow and Rio De Janeiro.
