2018 Season II & III

Artist Statement/ Biography

Levan Mindiashvili is a Georgian born, Brooklyn based artist, whose practice involves a wide range of artistic mediums and expands to curating and writing. His work focuses on transitional, “liquid” state in which we encounter ourselves as a society and deals with the fragility of all known paradigms and value systems. Physical nature of his chosen materials highlights temporal conditions and question the mechanisms of perception: pigmented plaster sculptures mimic found concrete remnants; While paintings, at first glance look very alike to pixelated, vintage photographs. His sculptures are translated into jacquard tapestries and presented as three-dimensional objects. Altogether, they create an installation which attempts to capture a physical experience of the ever-flowing present, of “here” and “now”.
