2023 Season IV

Artist Statement/ Biography

Zhuyan Ye makes images and sound, performs and writes to respond her experiences in the rapid development of China's urban construction and geopolitics in East Asia. She tests the relationship between bodies and the objects in the space. Talking back into time in an absolute discontinuity, Ye works to dismantle the structure of language while developing alternative structures of communication. Ye is transferring those space into writing and performance: the safe space people carry on themselves on public streets, the boundary between the waiting room and the exam room in the hospital or the definition of dirty and clean in the laundromat. The ideal space for her is porous, air flowing and changing or allowed to change.
