2021 Season II, 2021 Season IV

Yoshie Sugito (Japan)

Artist Statement/ Biography

Using a variety of supports, reaching from paper to wood, ceramic or textile, Yoshie Sugito’s colorful drawings depict social interactions between human figures as well as interactions with objects. The drawings often show similar scenes and repeated deviations, as if time or perspective were changing the course of their potential narration. All observation is undermined by a diversity of possible subjectivities, as each drawing casts a different light on the character and nature of the actual scene, questioning the validity of its representation.
