2013 Season I

Artist Statement

My work has been formed from the accumulation of oddities I have found in ordinary, everyday life. A variety of themes has emerged out of this accumulation such as "unconscious group behavior","the basis of identity or the thing called I", "the relationship of body and mind", "desire and circulation" and so on. One becomes entwined with another as they are sublimated into works of art. These themes keep coming back in my mind no matter how much I try to get rid of them every time I make a work. Also, through making my art I have come to think of my "life" as an extremely strange thing. What meaning is there in living the way we do? The more I make art the less I understand. My work may induce laughter, but even if the humor is black it has a positive meaning for me, representing life itself.
