Artist Statement/ Biography

Ryan Wang is a visual artist and filmmaker. His work utilizes a mixture of fiction, documentary and experimental genres to explore the function of remembering, while also addressing the essential notion of belongings, alienation and home. The narrator's intimate voice unfolds entanglements such as loss, longing and loneliness. Transitory places such as train stations, airports and bus stations appear as motifs connecting the memories scattered in the stretch of time.

Ryan Muchen Wang is a visual artist and filmmaker based in New York. His film and video work use a mixture of fiction, documentary and experimental genres to explore the function of remembering, while also addressing the essential notion of belongings, alienation and home. He embraces the avant-garde and essayistic modes of fiction and non-fiction cinema. He graduated from Columbia University in Visual Art and is currently teaching in the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University.
