2022 Season III, IV

Artist Statement/ Biography

Nicole Ji Soo Kim’s artistic process is heavily intertwined with her day to day life. Currently rooted in a personal work of mourning, she explores connections between grief and indifference. She invites a nihilistic approach as a rather positive framework for these experiences, giving meaninglessness meaning and significance. Nicole emphasizes the need for compassion towards a collective grief surrounding the human condition: the day to day exhaustions in relation to the mundanity of life through ephemeral effects of abstract drawings, performances and public interventions. A desire for direction, order and balance are frequent themes in her work.
