2015 Season I, 2015 Season II
Artist Statement/ Biography
Format No. 1 is a new optical sound format.
The project consists of a series of visual compositions, that can be turned into sound with an Iphone app.
We focus on minimalistic "building bricks" of image and sound, that can be reduced to pixels and frequencies.
The app that we have developed uses the iPhone camera to translate black pixels to a range of frequencies realtime, which allow for the user to move freely and get a hands on experience with sound.
The arrangement of the visual objects are inspired by musical notation systems from history, and you can think of the black cubes as bites of sound, and he visual compositions as open scores.
We share a fascination with the study of oscillations and vibrations of sound, and we wish to express the magic of sound though our work.
We combine analog techniques with digital technology to create new experiences - not just for people to see or hear - but for them to have an experience in physical space.
We are interested in new formats and what the future will bring.
Where are we heading with art, design, music and technology?---
