2021 Season IV

Artist Statement/ Biography

Guillaume Brisson-Darveau is particularly interested in how we negotiate our relationship to the physical and social environment. By creating ephemeral sculptural objects that he inscribes or performs in selected environments, he explores the tensions between strangeness and the familiar, playing with surprise or relationships of scale. His approach involves the creation of objects made mostly from rudimentary, recycled, and inexpensive materials, such as cardboard and paper. His latest projects have been heavily influenced by a reflection on the hybrid body, the works emerging from this work being at the crossroads of fashion design and sculptural or architectural forms.
